How Do I Set Up My Synology NAS for the First Time?
Synology ships diskless (except Beedrive), so you need to purchase hard drives/SSDs separately. Some Synology models only support Synology media, so choose carefully. If you buy media from us, we offer setup services.
- Assemble the NAS: Install your HDD/SSD into the NAS bays. Both 2.5" and 3.5" SATA SSD/HDDs fit into the bays.
- Connect to Network: Use an Ethernet cable to connect your NAS to your network.
- Power On: Plug in the power supply and turn on the NAS.
- Access DSM: Open a web browser and go to "find.synology.com" to access Synology DiskStation Manager (DSM). This is the interface you will use to configure your Synology.
- Complete Setup: Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the initial setup process.
- Access Your Synology: Use DSM or the mobile app to access your Synology.
Can I Access My Synology NAS Remotely?
Yes, Synology NAS offers multiple remote access options. QuickConnect is the easiest.
- QuickConnect: Easy remote access setup that handles port forwarding and provides a DDNS name. If port forwarding is not possible, it offers a slower relay connection.
- VPN Server: This is more complex but very secure. It involves setting up a VPN server on your Synology, opening the necessary ports, and accessing via a VPN client.
Does Synology Support Any Mobile Apps?
Yes, Synology offers several mobile apps such as Synology Drive, Synology Photo, Synology Moments, DS File, DS Video, DS Audio, and many more. These apps allow you to easily upload/download content and manage your Synology from mobile devices.
